MILESTONE SERIES
I never like to play favorites. When people ask me about my favorite shows and matches I never really name anything because I never like to put one thing above the other. Plus it depends on what kind of mood I'm in and my list of favorites always changes. I am about to break my rule.
The one week period of 3/25-4/1 marks the greatest shows in ROH history.
I thought 3/25 was better than Manhattan Mayhem. Some of you may disagree. That's your opinion and we all enjoy things differently, but with the two final tag matches and solid undercard I really dug this show.
3/30 was just as good if not better with a great finish on the Daniels vs. Joe match and two spectacular tags with Dragon Gate vs. ROH. Plus Whitmer vs. Jacobs is going to have people talking.
3/31 raised the bar even more. This is just a collection of everything in wrestling. You go from old school commissioners in Jim Cornette to the state-of-the-art Dragon Gate match to the new wave of women's wrestling to ladders and brawls in the crowd to a 56 minute classic world title main event to everything in between. Sure it was long, but so were the old school supercards and current day Dome shows and this is our version of that.
4/1 will probably be the consensus favorite as the best show although I might go with 3/31.
Bryan Danielson is now the best wrestler in the world. period. He is in total control out there. He is what ROH is about now and that's substance. The 3/31 match vs. Strong is like going on a journey. This match is not for everyone and not for people with short attention spans. However, if you are able to sit down without distractions, relax and just follow the wrestling you will be paid off with a match of the year candidate. The Lance Storm match was the best Storm match I've ever seen and I saw all of his ECW matches. He looked better than ever and obviously trained hard for this match. I take everything Lance has said about us as a huge compliment as he is as honest and straight forward a person that I have ever met and a true veteran.
The final three matches of 4/1 was the greatest second half in ROH history.
I have a million other thoughts on the raw footage, but it would take me all night to type them and I don't want to spoil anything for you. I will just say this. Everyone who participated on those shows from the crew to the wrestlers deserve all the credit in the world. It was really a special weekend. The crew treated all four shows like our Wrestlemania. I really haven't seen a locker room on such a mission since Barely Legal, except these guys did it for four straight cards. I know that is a bold statement, but I stand behind it and that is not a downgrade on ECW, but rather a compliment to the ROH locker room.
Please watch the whole Milestone Series in order as these shows are meant to be watched together and in order, especially the triple shot and two Chicago shows. The payoff is worth it.
I've also reconsidered the ROH chapters since the Milestone Series has turned out so well. There is a seperate post elsewhere about that and it is also a pinned topic in the reviews section.
Thanks to all the great fans in attendence for those four events. You really made them special.
I watched the 3 hour and 21 minute "Better Than Our Best" DVD straight through last night and I will go on record now as saying this is the best ROH show ever.
I never like to play favorites either. I never give an answer as to what the best ROH show and match is because there was never a clear cut answer in my mind. Now there is when it comes to our greatest show.
I am absolutely amazed by the effort of everyone on the card. Everyone wrestled the entire triple shot like they were on the biggest shows of their lives. The entire crew made these shows something special. Everyone who was on these events should be proud of themselves and this will be a body of work that will be remembered and talked about for a long time. Everyone pulled together and made this a team effort. Thank you to the entire locker room for making these shows something special.
I hope all of you will try to watch at least from "Best In The World" to "Better Than Our Best" in order and watch the DVDs from start to finish rather than skipping around. In order to get the most out of these shows they have to be watched consecutively and from start to finish. I am really proud on how they all tied together. Of course the best way to watch them is to watch EVERY show from start to finish, but at least make sure to watch 3/25-4/1 that way. The entire seven show Milestone Series looks really pretty in your DVD collection, too.
3/25 had the tremendous double main event, 3/30 had the incredible Dragon Gate debuts, 3/31 had two match of the year candidates on it, 4/1 is the better all around show. That sums up everything about this incredible run of shows. Of course your opinions might be different, but those are mine.
