[tv #297] Tempura Boys over Shaheem Ali/Leon St. Giovanni(5/10 bells) Opening Segment with YoungBucks/Adam Page introducing new member Marty Scurll then crashed by Adam Cole who's then challenged by Page. Prospect Champion Josh Woods over David Starr(4/10 copys) Lethal/Beer City Bruiser thrown out due to clash at color table with Silas Young. Cody Rhodes over Frankie Kazarian(6/10 cross nightmares) [tv#298] Gabby Ortiz/Sumi Sakai over Jesse Brooks/Tasha Steelz(5/10 woh's) WarMachine over WillBurger(5/10 warbeards) Ingobernables over Briscoes/Bully Ray/Dalton Castle(7/10 destinos) Adam Page over Adam Cole(7/10 rites of passage) [tv#299] Kelly Klein over Jenny Rose(5/10 gatekeepers) Roppongi Vice/Chuck Taylor over YoungBucks/Adam Page(8/10 best friends) Rhett Titus/Shane Taylor & Jay White/Johnathan Gresham to dq draw. [tv title] Kushida over Marty Scurll(7/10 tiger hitori's) [tv#300] Silas Young/Bruiser over Bobby Fish/Jay Lethal(6/10 real men) Kingdom over Fanboys(4/10 squashes) Punishment Martinez over J. Diesel(4/10 squashes) Addiction/Tanahashi over Gedo/Ospreay/Goto(7/10 last rites) [streetfight]Marty Scurll over Adam Cole (no rating)
[Honorable Mention] Dedicating this work to bday boys Cabanna(5/6),Kevin Kelly(5/8)Brian Danielson(5/22 & congratulations on 1st child!)plus mothers everywhere. Special thanks to Joe Koff for IWGP shirt signing aid with TIGER HITORI!(he's as much the heart & soul of brand as Mr. Inoki himself) HAPPY 45TH NEW JAPAN!! During meet-&-greet Addiction were reliably comedic colorful comic book salesmen.(chris's reply to moms days wellwishes:"I'm not a mother-I'm a motherfucker.") Tempura reminds me of dragongate's Millenials but with much slower growth. Ali/Giovanni have some promise. While I agree having Scurll take Cole's b-c spot a month after beating him makes sense what I also know that doesn't is the overall timing.(in vegas mid-march getting played by Addiction/losing belt plus tag bout THEN getting humble pie from bucks after he tried "firing" them was most ideal situation) Expected a little more from Woods/Starr.(actually very surprised Sean Carr & John Skylar didn't make prospect finals) Silas Young's hot streak continues in smooth fashion.(predict he'll become tv champ before Page) Rhodes' exchange with "colorman Cabanna" was show highlight. Was very happy that womens division was back on main show where it belongs after stagnating at pre-show purgetory for far too long. Kelly Klein has most "taeler hendrix level" potential but unsure of "veda scott level" promo potential. Witnessing once again how Cheeseburger gets very strong heat while Ferrara gets none makes this conclusion clear:split team up then put over Ferrara as reinvented heel star by feud. Rowe & Hanson made compelling point about how their roh tagtitle was "robbed".(although they never sold enough to most of fanbase)plus current machine/bucks scoreboard being 1-1 a rubber bout would be very effective. Ingobernables rivals Bullet Club by now in virtually every way, except language barrier & no lady member.(Ray & Naito's mind gaming was show highlight!)(LIJ or BC next roh trio champions??) "Hangman" surprised many by stepping up to beat a grandslam champ(by himself)in largest career win since briscoe streetfight last summer. Barretta's mystery partner became the show's(i'd guess the whole tour's)largest surprise!!! While I'm happy for Kushida's first belt in 41/2 months(using Tyler Black's finisher)it's extra risky for obvious reasons to begin a faces title run though extra help by another(newly turned)face. Grade B-
