Name's Jeff from Northern Indiana. I'll try to keep this short.
Began watching pro wrestling around 1982 when we got cable, and thus could get WTBS and see Championship Wrestling from Georgia (or World Championship Wrestling). Loved that. Soon got into WWF via USA's Sunday show.
Over time, the love grew until this was my major passion. We'd watch everything we could. Crockett's NWA on weekends. WWF syndicated shows and USA shows. AWA on ESPN. Any World Class or Mid-South/UWF we could. In January 1988, we ordered our first PPV, the NWA Bunkhouse Stampede. From that point until about 2000, never missed an NWA/WCW PPV. Got most of the WWF PPV too, until about 1997 when we stuck to just the big four shows. No ECW on TV here until it got on The National Network (pre-Spike name), but never missed an episode of that, even getting to see ECW live in South Bend, IN once, and ordering every ECW PPV.
When WCW and ECW died in 2001, my interest in wrestling left too. That was until 2002, when I bought the first Ring of Honor show on video. Loved it, and kept ordering them. Began to go to ROH shows in Chicago Ridge, and loved that. Had every ROH show on video or DVD up to, I believe, Man Up.
Got out of wrestling after that, and fell hard for UFC. Kept buying Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, and Summerslam on DVD simply because I owned every one and never let that go. Finally, my oldest boy began to enjoy wrestling when he was about 5, so I got back into it. Began to watch WWE shows on TV and buy the PPV DVD's when they came out. Also began watching TNA, and buying those PPV DVD's. But was doing that more for the boy than myself, as I wasn't enjoying it all that much. It was around this time that I heard about Gabe starting up DGUSA, and that one of the first shows was in Chicago. It also was (at that time) Bryan Danielson's last indy match. I took my brother for his birthday (even getting Dragon to autograph his birthday card). The DGUSA show was awesome, but for whatever reason, I never followed up on it.
Heard about the SBG purchase of ROH, and gave the ROH TV show a shot on their website. I really enjoyed it. Almost as much as UFC. More then WWE/TNA. So I kept watching every week, and even purchased my first iPPV with Final Battle 2011. That interest in ROH made me visit the DGUSA website, and learn about where this company has gone, and about Evolve.
Now I'm a major ROH fan again, and very interested in getting DGUSA/Evolve shows on iPPV.
Thanks to the three indy companies, I recently made the decision to swear off Corporate Sports Entertainment. I can't even watch one hour of WWE or TNA anymore. Just not what I think of as pro wrestling.
So I'm out there for Ring of Honor, Dragon Gate USA, and Evolve now.
That was long.
