ALL STAR EXTRAVAGANZA
I had a chance to watch last week's "All Star Extravaganza" event and I would definitely say it was our best show. Everything delivered, the storylines developed well and we got to see some great first time matches. American Dragon vs. AJ Styles was a complete home run as these two had a match of the year candidate in their first ever meeting. If you liked Low Ki vs. Dragon from "Round Robin Challenge" you'll love this one.
Seeing Tanaka and Ohtani was really something special and the crowd loved every second of it. Ohtani was even a little surprised at how well the crowd knew his signature moves. We can't thank Zero-One enough for putting them on our show and you could see more Zero-One involvement with ROH in the future.
The six man tag with The Prophecy vs. Ki, Williams and Homicide was just tag team wrestling at its best. Daniels and Morgan are a perfect tag team and have amazing chemistry together. Homicide is about to breakthrough. With this match, the Zero-One match and Dragon vs. Styles, we had three matches over four stars and a match of the year candidate. I'll put that up against any show out there.
I was so happy to see the great response JT Smith received. He was moved by it. JT has been one of my best friends since I started in ECW back in 1994. Will he be back? It's all in his hands.
Then of course there was the Tommy Dreamer thing. If there was ever a moment that you had to be there live, that was it. We are going to transcribe Dreamer's speech next week so everyone can read it. The entire speech was done from Dreamer's heart as he was given no direction and nothing to say except for the angle to make Shane and London shake hands. To say thank you isn't enough for what Dreamer said about ROH. We will always be in debt to him, but what makes Dreamer such a great person is that he didn't do this so we would owe him a favor or anything like that, he did it because he loves this business and wants to keep giving back even though he has already given so much. Just for the record since there are people who like to talk like they know it all, the Dreamer appearance had nothing to do with Spanky not being there. Dreamer wanted to be there and made it happen. More importantly than him being at a ROH show or endorsing ROH is the fact that he finally had a chance to have the sendoff he deserves and he finally had a chance to say thank you to the fans, or as he called them friends, in an intimate setting.
I really feel that Saturday offered a really well balanced show and went right back to our pure wrestling style, which we have deviated on for the last couple of events. We had different types of matches, we had some fun stuff like the women's match (hey how can you argue with Alexis Laree and Allison Danger kissing) and we had some people get hit over the head with stuff in the bunkhouse match. All the gauntlet matches delivered as did the four-way scramble and ROH title match.
I could spend the rest of the day writing about the show, but I'll spare you and just leave this with a big thank you to everyone out there for making it our biggest crowd ever in Philly. We will try to top it on December 28th when we return to South Philly. As Dreamer said, something special is happening in ROH and we will try to continue it on 12/28. It is the ROH crowd that makes our events so special and have created an atmosphere where the wrestlers love to perform and we can't thank you enough for that.
