SCRAMBLE MADNESS
I had a chance to sit down and watch last Saturday's "Scramble Madness" show from Wakefield, MA. I loved the show from top to bottom. It was very straight forward and gave the fans some of everything.
The ten man scramble match stole the show and was just insane and out of this world. The scramble concept is really becoming one of the most over parts of the show as it always has lots of great action, creativity and unreal moves. I thought every scramble we've done so far has been extremely entertaining, but the one last Saturday brought it to another level and is a must see. Smart fans like to call them spotfests, but to that I say have an open mind and try to accept something new. Just cause they don't have the basic psychology of regular matches doesn't take away that they are some of the most futuristic, creative and innovative matches going today and the guys involved put forth an amazing effort to pull them off. There is too much tremendous stuff in that match to try to describe so all I'll say is thank you to Red, SAT, Divine Storm, Joey, Izzy, Dixie, Deranged, Slim J and Angel Dust for an unbelievable effort. Slim J was knocked out and Rob Feinstein went with him to the hospital during the show, but he was fine an hour later and didn't suffer a concussion. Angel Dust was also knocked a little silly. Slim J, Deranged and Angel Dust all looked great in their debuts will all be back with ROH on a regular basis.
The final three matches were about as good as any final three matches you can hope for.
Doug Williams vs. American Dragon was just a clinic and if you liked their June 22nd match, you'll love this one. They both were real happy to be able to have such a long match and they both said it was their best match against each other.
Samoa Joe vs. Homicide was a really underrated match from the reviews I read. If you want strong style action, this one if for you and Homicide is really stepping it up as a singles.
The opening angle and match with Mark Briscoe joining The Prophecy and teaming with Daniels vs. Red & Jay Briscoe was excellent. Mark and Daniels did some twisted stuff and this is going in an interesting direction. The Briscoes parents deserve a mention for their reaction to the whole thing. This will make great TV.
I will be the first one to admit that we need to get our videotapes and DVDs out faster and we are working hard on that. The crowd reactions were a little down just because people really weren't quite up to speed yet with the storylines and characters. A bunch of little things went wrong too. We had a new sound guy, who was terrible and messed stuff up in almost every match. We also had some trouble with our turnbuckle pads, but those are just minor things that get to me because I'm a perfectionist.
Dunn & Marcos deserve credit for taking a hellacious beating from Samoa Joe. Those two guys are among the hardest working on the crew and fans are really getting into their whole goofy Ring Crew Express gimmick. Da Hit Squad vs. Tony Mamaluke & Matt Thompson was very entertaining just for the crowd reaction to the 6'8 Thompson. Hit Squad were their normal hard-hitting selves and Thompson took one hell of a burning hammer. Jeremy Lopez and Xavier was a great heel vs. unknown babyface underdog match. I saw reviews with people saying the crowd wasn't into it, but after watching the tape Lopez and Xavier did a great job of drawing the people into the match and they were into it by the finish. The six man with Masada as the new member of The Carnage Crew vs. Alex Arion, Fast Eddie & Don Juan was real solid and I'd like to see more of those guys working each other. Masada will be back as a member of The Carnage Crew. Loc & Devito's promo about the upcoming match vs. Homicide & Abdullah The Butcher will air on High Impact TV in a week and I feel it is one of the best promos in the history of Ring Of Honor.
