MASATO YOSHINO'S SOL NACIENTE
*Topic references modern DGUSA shows
I wanted to put everyone's attention on Masato Yoshino's Sol Naciente, a move which I feel should be deservedly recognized as the most effective submission in Dragon Gate USA.
Just how effective is it?
55% of ALL Dragon Gate USA shows have featured Masato Yoshino tapping someone out with this move. That includes shows like Open The Southern Gate which he never wrestled on. His path of destruction has included the biggest names in the company. Lets look at the history.
Dragon Kid submitted to Sol Naciente @ Freedom Fight 2009
Shingo submitted to Sol Naciente @ Fearless 2010
Shingo submitted to Sol Naciente @ Open The Ultimate Gate 2010
Gamma submitted to Sol Naciente @ Mercury Rising 2010
Dragon Kid submitted to Sol Naciente @ Northern Gate 2010
Yamato submitted to Sol Naciente @ Enter The Dragon 2010
Austin Aries submitted to Sol Naciente @ Bushido: Code of the Warrior 2010
Yamato submitted to Sol Naciente @ Freedom Fight 2010
Ricochet submitted to Sol Naciente @ United: Philly 2010
Sami Callihan submitted to Sol Naciente @ Mercury Rising 2011
Naruki Doi submitted to Sol Naciente @ Ultimate Gate 2011
Ricochet submitted to Sol Naciente @ Enter The Dragon 2011
Chuck Taylor submitted to Sol Naciente @ Chasing The Dragon
AR Fox submitted to Sol Naciente @ Bushido: Code of the Warrior
Cima submitted to Sol Naciente @ Freedom Fight 2011
Naruki Doi submitted to Sol Naciente @ Golden Gate 2012
Thats 16 submissions via Sol Naciente in DGUSA's short history of 29 shows.
What makes this even more impressive, is that many of these victories came in huge matches that featured more then two men. In the Dragon Gate 6-Man @ Mercury Rising 2010, it was Sol Naciente, in the Dragon Gate 8-Man @ Enter The Dragon 2010, it was Sol Naciente. Not to mention that Yoshino had a major United Gate run with Pac, so while many of those victories came from 450's or Shooting Star 360's, just as many times it was Yoshino pulling out the win, and always with Sol Naciente.
So beware everyone, if you ever see your favourite wrestler in the ring with Masato Yoshino, there's a very good chance he'll end up tapping by the end of the night.
Update: Chuck Taylor submitted to Sol Naciente (again) @ Ultimate Gate 2012
OPEN THE FREEDOM GATE TITLE: JOHNNY GARGANO VS. MASATO YOSHINO (MERCURY RISING 2012)]
*Now outdated
I'd like to bring up one more interesting piece of history regarding Sol Naciente as Yoshino heads into his Freedom Gate title match on March 31st. At Chasing The Dragon 2011, it was Johnny Gargano & Chuck Taylor vs. Masato Yoshino & Yamato. Johnny Gargano applied the Gargano Escape on Yamato for 40 seconds (I timed it) and could not get him to tap. In the midst of that, Masato Yoshino applied Sol Naciente on Chuck Taylor and in less then 10 seconds forced a submission, thus stealing the win.
