Last report I had heard was grade 3 muscle tear in his back. I haven't heard a timetable yet. I think he's been cleared to work out again though.

wondering how Chikara handles it on Feb. 25th seeing how they're still advertising him. I hope he's back soon and I hope DGUSA doesn't strip the belt off him. 2012 wills till be Gargano's year

It would make no sense to strip Gargano of the title due to lack of defenses or whatever gabe's reasoning was.
PAC and Yoshino didn't defend the belts for 5 months and then they dropped the belts to Ricochet and CIMA. Then CIMA and Ricochet didn't defend them until over 3 months later.
YAMATO won the Freedom Gate Title late January but didn't defend it until the WM Weekend Shows which were in April.
It would be absolutely pointless and kill the credibility of the title and the promotion IMO if they stripped him of the title.

A smart guy on another board suggested a tournament to crown an interim champ, then have Gargano wrestle him when he got back, like what UFC has done in the past. Or maybe that was announced or recommended somewhere else. I don't remember. Still thought it was a good idea.

The longest PAC and Yoshino had United Gate without a defense was three months, not five.
Also, CIMA and Ricochet have been defending United Gate every other month.
The major concern about whether or not to strip Gargano is how long it will take him to completely heal. There is no timetable for either his return or even when he'll be healthy enough to be cleared to wrestle. When you don't know for sure when the champion is going to return, you really don't have a choice but to strip him of the belt.

I am positive I heard 8-12 weeks somewhere for his recovery, which was also about 3-4 weeks ago.

BXB HULK didn't defend 10/29/10-01/28/11 (91 Days) Date between Evolve 10-DGUSA Miami (76 Days) Date between Evolve 10-Evolve 11 (90 Days)
So whether Johnny Gargano comes back Mania weekend, or two weeks later at Evolve 11. It doesn't seem like a long enough time to strip him of title.

You can use BxB Hulk as an example but it couldn't be that he didn't defend in between the dates schedule. If the company has the dates the top champion should be there to be the company's face.

I know its not the best example, I'm just trying to indicate it isn't that long a time. I mean Gargano defended @ Evolve 10, if he misses mania he'll defend @ Evolve 11. Doesn't seem like a long enough time to start doing anything drastic.

I always liked Gargano, but my respect for him is threw the roof as I had a very similar injury about 2 years ago and can't believe he wrestled threw it. I can't wait to see the E10 dvd.

Guess it's too late to be complaining about this but I think the Open the Freedom Gate championship title should show more face at DGUSA shows than Evolve shows. Just look at the name of the belt; it's meant for the Dragon Gate guys. Was excited for Gargano to be the first American Open the Freedom champion but it's going to stink if the belt is exchanged in a company I don't even watch. Think if they decided to make the Open the Dream Gate DGUSA's main title. We wouldn't be able to see championship matches live.

I for one do not want to see a interim champion. I would keep the DGUSA Title on him for the time being, and then wait things out till Evolve 11, if Johnny isn't able to defend by then, I would strip him of the title then. I would hate to see him be stripped, I think he'll make a great champion, but he's now only the face of DGUSA now he's the face of Evolve since the DGUSA Title is the top title for both promotions since they are one in the same.

I personally like the interim champ idea.

I don't have any problem with the belt being defended in Evolve, I always think it's cool when a company's belt is defended in other promotions. I wouldn't like to see it change hands there though.
